IDENTITY:
A yellow Hibiscus flower which changes to dull orange in daylight and dull red at night. Wood from the Hau tree was used by Hawaiians for outrigger canoes, fishing floats, and as a "fire stick" to create fire. Hau has a tough, pliable inner bark which was plaited into ropes and used to drag canoe logs from the mountains to the shore.
