Botanical name:Ricinus communis
Common name: Castor Bean

IDENTITY:

Growing as a plant or tree, the oil from the Castor Bean is used medicinally as a cathartic (taken sparingly,) and as a lubricant. It is also used for lighting and in soap. The seeds were used by the Hawaiians for leis, although they are actually poisonous. Castor Beam flowers are borne on panicles which are cream colored at the base with red stigmas at the top.
